Ethical Travel

This policy is part of our effort to ensure that our tours have a positive impact on the local communities and environment.

We use local services

We believe that local people should get a fair share of the benefits of tourism. We use services (accommodation, restaurants, transport etc.) that are owned and run by members of the local community. We employ local people at fair wages and with good working conditions. Where possible supplies and equipment for our tours are purchased locally.

We give customers information

We will give you the information that you need to enjoy your trip in a culturally and environmentally responsible way.

We run responsible tours

Our groups are kept small to minimise the impact on our surroundings. Most of the travelling is done by foot, horse or bicycle, particularly in the most precious areas. We use recycling facilities where they exist - in our UK office. In Afghanistan, there are no recycling facilities, but there is much less waste. For example, we use local produce for food, rather than imported packaged goods, as much as possible. We ensure that all employees are aware of our ethical travel policy, and we are committed to working with our suppliers and partners to encourage respect for the environment. We use experienced local guides who are trained to safeguard the natural environment. We keep local water clean, avoiding using pollutants such as detergents in streams or springs. On our camping tours, rubbish is packed up and carried out to designated waste disposal facilities. We leave camping sites as clean or cleaner than we found them.
